Origins Of Hoopty Bikes

My name is Chris Duncan. I was a pro BMXER in the mid 90's to mid 2000's.  I was a competitor in a disciplined event called Dirt Jumping.  My endeavors spanned the globe and were featured on the ESPN X-games and Gravity Games on NBC.    After I retired from competition in 2003 I became a full-time mountain bike instructor.  In the past I mainly expressed myself physically as a sponsored cycling athlete, but now I’ve shifted to other avenues.  Today, I still teach mountain biking part-time, ride BMX and perform stand up comedy, but most of my time is devoted to my vintage bicycle restoration company called Hoopty Bikes.  Since BMX bikes are made of steel I naturally learned to appreciate the craftsmanship of vintage road bikes.  Despite how cool vintage BMX bikes are, they’re not as easy to find as vintage road bikes nor are they as practical.
The SF Bay area’s very commuter friendly vibe, and the appeal of meshing fashion and function led me to restore vintage road bikes into daily commuters.

“I’m on the Mystery ship and I’m enjoying the ride.”
